Join the North Country Arts Council on June 8 from 6pm to 9p for the opening of “Inspirations from Within” featuring the work of award winning artist Kristy Askins Hoover. The exhibit runs from June 8 through June 30 at Arts on the Square and Kristy will showcase new work as well as her award-winning pieces.
Ms. Hoover, daughter of Edward Askins, Caton, and Elaine Askins, Lindley (both in Steuben County), attended Indian River Central School in Philadelphia before moving to Watertown in the 11th grade. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1995 and from Jefferson Community College in 2013. At her JCC graduation, she was named art student of the year.
Kristy has been the owner of Adirondack River Photography since 2011. Her photos have been published in both the Adirondack Express in April 2013 and the 2013-2014 Greater Watertown Visitors Guide. Her drawings have been featured on the cover of both the 1997 and 2013 Black River Review as well as a self-portrait in the Fall 2014 issue of the Great Lakes Review.
Kristy’s numerous paintings, oil and watercolor, were on display at Jefferson Community College’s Corner Cafe as she was invited to be the inaugural featured artist from 2013-2014. She also won the grand prize in the 69th Annual NCAC Fall Art Show in 2017 with her graphite powder drawing of “Sicily,” a nude female torso.
